JCrew's fall collection (or what I'll be copying for my wardobe this winter)

Man... times like this I miss my old 9-5 (which turned out to be 8-forever most times) and my Napolean complex having, bi-polar boss and snooty whiny junior publicists and lewd clients. Why? Because then I would be able to by everything from the Jcrew's fall collection! Ah well, I know how to sew. Besides their tops never fit my boobs anyway. *cries*

Regardless.. Jcrew has been killing it lately and here's how...

Silk Francis Cami. Yall know I LOVE me some ruffles. Check it below in yellow..

Swoon..I've already started the pattern for this one..

Wool ruffle front coat. Your basic coat with a ruffle for pizazz..easy peasy..

Simplicity 2591

So I said I'm going to give commercial patterns a go again and make some things for myself. I get so ashamed when I tell people I design clothing then they ask me "Did you make that?" and I'm wearing something I made 10 years ago or store bought. Now the last thing I need is clothes, but none of my fancy NY clothes are appropriate for my new hangouts. The library. The playground. The grocery store. So every free minute I have (ha!) I'm going to make something for myself. I don't have time for the complicated, but I can certainly run off a few summer dresses right?

First up...Simplicity 2591

This is actually supposed to be my muslin made from some .99 cent seersucker I found at Joann's. I was so sure I would have to do major alterations as is usually the case when I try to sew from commercial patterns, but surprise surprise..this one worked well! I zoomed it off in two hours breaking all he rules I tell my sewing students to follow. My kid was about to wake up so I had to! I left the zipper out of the back making it a pullover which works fine with the wide neckline and *slightly* high waist. I am a 38DDD ( I know..SERENITY NOW!) but did not have to do much adjustment. I cut the 18 went into 16 at the waist and lowered the dart and bust point 1 inch and lengthened the dart a 1/2 inch.

Were the instructions hard to follow?
I didn't look at them once, so I think if you have ever sewn ANYTHING, this should be a breeze.

Will I sew this again? Yep, it's a good "kick-around" dress and you'll notice the pockets are wonky because I already had them loaded with crap. lol. I'll probably make two more in brighter colors, this time taking the time to re-enforce the pockets. I'll probably raise the arm hole a half-inch too, because now I notice in the pic my bra is showing. Other than that...

Cute!

Anybody know where I can buy replacement blades for a white Superlock Serger? I have searched the internet to no avail.

Maxi Dress

Inspired by Erica B., whose maxi dress post made me say "I want one!" out loud. Now, I been wearing maxi dresses for years regardless of whether they are in style at the moment or not, I just love them. So much so that the husband gets hot and bothered if he sees my legs in public lol. So what I really meant was "I want a NEW one!" I didn't have any stretch material, which is a shame because I was gonna straight-up steal Erica's dress design, but I did have 4 yards of this print from Joanns. The selvage states that this is "A print exclusive for Joann Fabric" so I guess Joann's is doing big things since the last time I used to shop there regularly (in the 90's). The print kinda muddles the design details and I gotta get my husband to work on his photography skills , but here it is!

*This a pattern drafted by me, excuse the kid who is trying to make his escape while we are distracted*
